First Chair Three Semesters in a Row

As you will recall from this post and this post, A.J. was trumpet section first chair in the sixth grade band at his middle school both semesters last year. On Wednesday of last week, he had his first chair placement test of the new school year. A.J. was very nervous about this test because eight days earlier he had braces put on his upper row of teeth and it really hurt when he tried to hit the higher notes. Unfortunately, the chair placement piece had some high notes with which he was really having trouble.

On Friday, A.J. found out that he and one of his friends tied for first chair. His amazingly nice friend volunteered to take second chair and let A.J. be first chair. I would have proud of whatever chair placement he had earned but I’m glad that all of his hard work has paid off.
